What Teams Should Make A Play For Randy Moss?

Put on you GM hats everyone, because Randy Moss is on the waiver wire. Let’s assume, for a moment, that he isn’t a complete team cancer, and that most teams in the NFL would like to sign him (but not pick up his $6.4 million salary for the rest of the year).

Yeah, he’s not what he once was. But he’s still better than your average number two wide receiver in the NFL. So if he passes through waivers, let’s step inside Moss’ mind: where should he go?

A young team would be foolish to take on Moss (and it won’t happen). Likely destinations are veteran squads that can keep him calm and that have a real chance at a title.

So: where will Moss land next?

5. Tennessee Titans: Kenny Britt just went down with an injury at what was already a weak spot for the Titans. Oh, and when Chris Johnson tweets, the front office should listen. Moss can stretch the field while Britt’s gone and gives the team another weapon, something they’ll need to make the playoffs. This seems like the team most likely to actually claim Moss.

4. Green Bay Packers: The Packers aren’t desperate for a wide receiver, but this would be a serious power play. Greg Jennings can only carry a team on his back for so long (broken leg, or no broken leg). Donald Driver is hurting and getting older. Jermichael Finley is out for the year. I’m talking myself into this, since the best thing about this deal is that Moss would get to play against Minnesota.

3. Atlanta Falcons: They’re Super Bowl contenders, I guess? (Being above .500 in the NFC kind of automatically makes you one).  Adding Moss would boost their receiving corps immediately. Tony Gonzalez isn’t getting any younger and Roddy White‘s back can’t possibly handle this load the entire season.

This actually makes the most sense from both Moss and the team’s standpoint. A star wideout in place to take coverage off of him, and a veteran team with plenty of experience.

2. Indianapolis Colts: Yep, I’ll say it. Why not? This is purely a guess, and I doubt it will happen, but what if. The team is dealing with a crazy, absurdly injured receiving corps (Reggie Wayne is the only guy you’ve heard of not to miss a game this year). And if there’s one guy (besides Brady) who can talk sense into Moss, it’s got to be Peyton Manning.

1. New England Patriots: This seems to be the consensus among NFL general managers right now, even though they have the last waiver priority. Crazy? Yes. But then again, this is Randy Moss we’re talking about. And yesterday’s comments definitely made it clear: he misses New England. And because nothing ever makes sense when we’re talking about Randy Moss.

And if all else fells? This UFL team, maybe?
