The Onion once had a “story” about the Yankees locking down a title by signing every player in baseball. Eight years later, we’re left to think the Philadelphia Eagles saw that story and thought, “Hey, those guys were on to something.” You know the team made a ton of moves, moves that both made a splash and looked to significantly improve the team (even if that didn’t quite sit well with everybody).
The Eagles added cornerbacks. They added depth at running back and quarterback. They upgraded their defensive line. Why, they made so many moves it seems like the only player they didn’t add was Randy Moss. Well…
Karen Guregian of the Herald reports that the Eagles made an offer to Moss following his retirement.
Is nothing enough for this team? Hey, if you make an offer to everyone else, why not? It’s still hard for us to believe Moss is completely done as a player – maybe he mulls over what the Eagles proposed for a while, then decides he’ll take a shot with these guys. And if that happens, even if Moss is past his prime, the Miami Heat comparisons might actually start to have some validity. The Eagles became the NFL’s biggest newsmakers in less than a week’s time – if the Moss interest is mutual, we’d have our cherry on top of the hype sundae, and all that would be left to say would be: “Man, the Eagles BETTER be good now.”
